Meet the Team
Dr. Jodie Spencer
Jodie (Stickley) Spencer was born and raised in Maryville, Missouri. An honors graduate of Maryville High School, Dr. Jodie went on to complete her undergraduate work at Northwest Missouri State University, receiving her bachelor's degree in Pre-professional Zoology in 1999. She began dental school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City on a full-ride Navy scholarship after accepting a commission as a Naval officer in 1999. Dr. Jodie was active as a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity and was selected to be part of the honors oral surgery program in dental school. She was awarded the prestigious Golden Forceps award upon graduation for her clinical excellence in oral surgery. Dr. Jodie was fortunate enough to have the Navy select her for post-doctoral training in pediatric dentistry, and was accepted at Indiana University for residency. After graduating dental school in 2003, Dr. Jodie moved to Indianapolis for training and it was during that time that she met Dr. Glynn and fell in love with him! They were married soon after and accepted orders to Japan together after her residency was completed in 2005. Dr. Jodie was lucky enough to have married a man with two beautiful girls, and she adores her oldest daughters, Annie and Sarah.
The Spencers spent three years in Japan, during which time their two youngest children, Madison and Brady were born. During their tour in Japan, Dr. Jodie was chosen as Junior Officer of the Quarter and Junior Officer of the Year of the hospital in which she worked-the first dentist to be recognized as such. She was also awarded two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and one Navy Commendation Medal during that tour, a significant achievement for such a short period of time. After completing their tour in Japan, the Spencers moved to Great Lakes, Illinois where they completed their last tour of service before moving on to private practice.
In her free time, Dr. Jodie loves spending time with her family, and often can be found having family "campouts" in the living room on weekends. Dr. Jodie also loves to cook and spends much time designing and perfecting original recipes as well as teaching her children how to cook. Other beloved family activities include boating, traveling, and lots of trips to the library and bookstore as she and her children are all avid readers.
Dr. Jodie loves her job as a pediatric dentist and treats each patient with a gentle Mother's touch. The Spencers are adamant that each patient is treated as if they were their own child, and are thrilled to have such a wonderful staff. Dr. Jodie is excited to be a part of the Lee's Summit community and looks forward to many years serving the families here!
Dr. Jodie Spencer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry as well as a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association, the Greater Kansas City Dental Society, and the Eastern Jackson County Dental Association.
Dr. Glynn Spencer
Glynn Spencer grew up in Springdale, Arkansas and has always been an avid outdoorsman. After High School, he attended the University of Arkansas for a year before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Glynn served as a combat infantryman primarily stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia and Ft. Riley, Kansas. Upon completion of his enlisted service, he began his studies at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Glynn graduated from Washburn in 1995 with a Baccalaureate Degree in Chemistry.
Dr. Glynn was then accepted into dental school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, graduating with Honors in Pediatric Dentistry and receiving the prestigious Arthur Iwersen Award for Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry in 1999. At this time, Glynn began his residency in Pediatric Dentistry at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
Having been a Navy Health Professions Scholarship recipient in Dental School, Glynn began his Naval service directly after completion of his residency in 2001. He spent six of the nine years on active duty in Yokosuka, Japan and the rest in Great Lakes, IL. It was during his Naval service that he met and fell in love with Dr. Jodie.
During his time in the Navy, Dr. Glynn served for three years as the Specialty Leader and Consultant to the Navy Surgeon General for Pediatric Dentistry, recommending policies and processes, updating standards of care, and managing career progression of Navy Pediatric Dentists worldwide. He also served as a Division Officer, Department Head, and the Director of Dental Services of US Naval Hospital, Yokosuka, Japan; responsible for all dental operations in Yokosuka, Sasebo, and Atsugi, Japan as well as Chin-Hae, Korea and Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territories. In his final year he was the Director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program in Great Lakes, IL.
During his free time, Dr. Glynn enjoys restoring and building vehicles, especially the Jeep he "borrowed" from Dr. Jodie. Glynn also loves football, boating, hiking, hunting, fishing, and spending as much time as possible with his family. He is thrilled to be in Lee's Summit and looks forward to serving the community!
Dr. Glynn is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Missouri Dental Association, the Greater Kansas City Dental Society, and the Eastern Jackson County Dental Association.
Logan Childers, Jr., DDS
After opening their practice in Lee's Summit, the Spencers were fortunate enough to meet Dr. Logan Childers, Jr., a pediatric dentist who has practiced in Independence, MO for the past 43 years. Looking for a means to eventually retire and spend more time with his lovely family, the Spencers and Dr. Childers joined forces in February of 2011 when the Spencers purchased Dr. Childers practice in Independence. It has since become an extension of the Lee's Summit office and the doctors all enjoy practicing with one another. Dr. Childers still sees patients a few days a week and even though he has cut back on his chairside time and has dubbed himself the Wal-Mart greeter of the practice, we expect him to never fully retire (partially at the request of his lovely wife Jan!)
Dr. Childers graduated from high school in 1959 and went on to study at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois. After three years he was accepted at the University of Missouri School of Dentistry and graduated with his DDS in 1966. Shortly after graduation he married the love of his life, Jan Anette Ward, whom he met during his third year in dental school as she worked as a dental assistant for the school. Dr. and Mrs. Childers teamed up both personally and professionally and went to work for the Missouri Department of Health on the Elks Mobile Dental Unit, where they traveled throughout the state treating special needs children for a little over a year. It was that experience that led Dr. Childers to discover his love of pediatric dentistry and went on to apply and be accepted to the post-graduate residency program at Childrens Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
After completion of his residency, Dr. Childers went into private practice in 1969, first as an associate and later on his own, where he has been happily practicing ever since.
Dr. and Mrs. Childers were have three children, Brad, Todd, and Holly. Between the three children they have been blessed with FIFTEEN grandchildren, all who live less than 20 minutes away from the Childers. The Childers are wonderful grandparents and are constantly involved in their grandchildrens lives and activities. They are often found at soccer games, recitals, and other events with their beloved grandchildren and adore spending time with them.
After practicing for 43 years, Dr. and Mrs. Childers enjoy taking several well-deserved vacations a year, and especially enjoy their time in Mexico where they visit frequently. They were able to take a European vacation last summer and had the time of their lives.
Dr. Childers constantly amazes everyone with his high energy level and zest for life. He has enjoyed a long, rewarding career and feels very blessed to be able to continue practicing on a part-time basis for as long as he (or Mrs. Childers!) sees fit. The Spencers are very happy to have formed this partnership and look forward to a long and happy future with Dr. Childers.
Paula Schultz, our practice administrator, grew up in Independence Missouri, where she graduated from Van Horn High School. She attended college at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, during which time she met her husband Rick on a spring break trip to Galveston Island in Texas. Paula has been married for 35 years, has 3 grown children and is looking forward to grandchildren someday. Paula's previous job had been as a dental office manager in Maryville, a position she held for 14 years. It was there that she met Dr. Jodie, who also worked for the same dentist at that time. Paula took Dr. Jodie under her wing and became her "second mom" during those years. They are both thrilled to be working together again!
During her free time, Paula enjoys spending time with her family, especially golfing and water skiing at Lake of the Ozarks. She is a member of St. Mark's Church in Independence, and looks forward to mini road trips with her wonderful husband Rick during their time off. An avid football fan, Paula religiously follows her favorite teams, the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, Nebraska Corn Huskers, and of course, the Kansas City Chiefs. We're excited to have Paula on our dental team and look forward to many great years to come!
Brooke Campbell comes to us from Belton, Missouri. She was born in the Chicago area before moving to Missouri during her teen years. Brooke is a graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School and has attended Longview and Heritage colleges. Brooke is our office manager for our Lee's Summit location, and has a broad base of knowledge of the business side of dentistry. She has been with us since day one and we are so grateful to have her as a team leader! Brooke has been married to James for 9 years, and they have an 8 year old son named Zachary. She enjoys playing all types of sports and football Sundays are her favorite. Brooke likes to travel, loves going to the lake, and is also our most organized staff member - she even likes to clean! Brooke is a great asset to our dental team and we are grateful to have her on staff!
Shaynie Roach, from Pleasant Hill, Missouri joins our team with extensive experience of working with children. Married for 20 years, she is the proud mother of 3 beautiful girls, Kirstie, Marki, and Madison. Shaynie has previously worked in a pediatric dental office and enjoyed assisting until having a family. She was fortunate to have been a stay-at-home mom with her girls but also has enjoyed substitute teaching for the past 4 years. Shaynie has recently decided that she'd like to come back to the dental field and we are lucky to have her! She is a member of the Abundant Life Baptist Church in Lee's Summit, where she volunteers in Children's Church. Shaynie loves cooking, watching old movies, and spending time with her lovely family. We are proud to have Shaynie's nurturing manner and calming presence on our team, she is a great asset to our practice!
Lindsey Penyock joins us as one of our front desk staff members. A self-professed ring-leader, Lindsey is beloved by the entire staff and can often be found as a confidante and big sister for the girls. A local K.C. girl, Lindsey is a Kansas State graduate with a degree in Interior Architecture Design. She has been essential in event planning for our practice, whether it is Christmas parties or Color Runs, and her organizational skills have been an invaluable asset to our practice. Lindsey enjoys cooking, vintage and antique furniture shopping, and going to concerts. She can be found at her family's lake house during the summer with her beloved dogs, Fiona and Roscoe. Recently engaged to the love of her life, Anthony Mravunac, Lindsey is busy planning her wedding and spending time with her family and friends in her free time. Lindsey and Dr. Jodie look so much alike that they affectionately refer to each other as "Twinkie" and enjoy getting asked if they are sisters.
Ashley Sloan's beautiful smile is the first sight our patients see as they walk into our Lee's Summit office. Ashley works at the front desk and has been an incredible addition to our team. She keeps busy with her friends and family and has three Chihuahuas that she spoils rotten. Ashley is a huge Mizzou fan but has a secret passion for KU basketball, a quirk which keeps us all guessing during basketball season. Ashley is very spunky and she is constantly entertaining us with her stories and comments, and thinks that "you're never fully dressed without a smile." We all enjoy her infectious laugh and quirky personality, and are grateful to have such a fun person to work with.
Melissa, or "Mel" as she is known to us, is a native of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and moved to Missouri almost nine years ago. She is a clinical assistant in our Independence location and a graduate of the Concorde Career College dental assistant program. Mel completed her internship under the supervision of Dr. Childers prior to the merging of the doctors practices, and she was happily employed by the Spencers afterward, even volunteering to be the permanent "on call" assistant! Mel has two stepchildren and two cats whom she adores, and also has a vast knowledge of books, movies, and music. She admits to being a "big kid" herself and constantly amazes us with how well she relates to our patients. We are very lucky to have her.
Kelly Twitchell, born in Omaha but raised in Independence, is a mother to three wonderful children. A graduate of William Chrisman High School, Kelly was a real estate agent before starting her career as a dental assistant. She enjoyed home schooling her children for nine years before going back to work full time. Kelly was recently blessed with a beautiful granddaughter and loves spending time with her family whenever she can. A somewhat new football fan, Kelly is also an avid music lover and enjoys going to concerts and exploring all of the fun events around Kansas City. Kelly has a gentle touch and the patients adore her. We have been blessed to have her join our team.
